  • Brand: KNOWN-YOU
  • Quantity: About  700 seeds per pack
  • Growing Environment: Lettuce is adapted to cool growing conditions with the optimum temperatures for growth of 60 to 65°F. At 70 to 80°F, the plants flower and produce seed. Lettuce can tolerate a few days of temperatures from 80 to 85°F, provided that nights are cool.
  • Germination: 2-12 days
  • Soil Condition: Lettuce likes well-drained soil that stays moist but never waterlogged. This plant's soil should have a pH range of 6.0 to 6.5.
  • Spacing: When sowing seeds directly into the soil, you should plant approximately 10 seeds per foot. Space your rows 12 to 18 inches apart. Thin leaf lettuce seedlings to 4 inches apart.
  • Light: Full Sun
  • Watering Time:  Water the lettuce once or twice per week, or every four to five days, whenever rainfall is inadequate or the soil about an inch below the soil surface feels dry to the touch. Moisten the top 6 inches of soil with each watering session.
  • Fertilizing: Lettuce plants thrive in nutrient-rich soil. Once the seedlings emerge, a dose of fertilizer can be applied to maximize lettuce leaf production. Choose a well-balanced fertilizer with equal parts nitrogen, potassium and phosphate.

Official Name: Lactuca sativa

General description: Lettuce (Lactuca sativa) is an annual plant of the daisy family, Asteraceae. It is most often grown as a leaf vegetable, but sometimes for its stem and seeds. Lettuce is most often used for salads, although it is also seen in other kinds of food, such as soups, sandwiches and wraps; it can also be grilled.

How to grow:

  • Cover the seeds with ¼ to ½ inch of soil.
  • Water thoroughly at time of transplanting.
  • Consider planting rows of chives or garlic between your lettuce to control aphids. They act as “barrier plants” for the lettuce.

Benefits: It also provides calcium, potassium, vitamin C, and folate. The nutrients in iceberg lettuce can help you to meet the standard daily requirements for several vitamins and minerals. They include: Vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant that helps keep your immune system healthy.
