Overview
Hydroponics is a type of gardening in which plant roots sit in a shallow trough filled with a nutrient solution. Generally, the plants grow healthier and are more productive than those grown in soil. -
Media
Several hydroponic media are available, including rockwool, geolite, perlite, vermiculite, sphagnum moss and gravel. They retain water well and provide aeration for root systems. -
Nutrient Solution
Two types of nutrient solutions are used--grow formula and bloom formula. The grow formula is used for the vegetative growth phase, while the bloom formula is used for the flowering growth phase. -
Advantages
Hydroponically grown plants are not susceptible to soil-borne pests and diseases. Exposure to optimum nutrient and moisture levels results in a much faster growth rate than soil-grown plants.
